As the arts programs in the Los Angeles Unified School District began getting cut, the CICA launched an experiment to pepper money at a small school to see what happens. Valley View Elementary School has 250 students K-6, 11 teachers and an amazing even mix of Hispanic, Asian, Caucasian and African-American students, as well as an exceedingly high 14 percent special needs children. With this money, the school has created an after-school all-free music program that has 80 percent of the students attending, a teaching garden, an ever-growing student-produced mural, and much more.
